Charlotte Day Wilson – Selfish
Toronto singer-songwriter and producer Charlotte Day Wilson returns with “Selfish”, a new single that came together in about three hours. Wilson co-wrote the track with Saya Gray, Ace G, and Braden Sauder, with Gray on piano providing the chords that sparked the song’s direction.
The production opens with electric piano and basslines over a steady beat, creating space for Wilson’s layered harmonies and her signature vocal control. She plays multiple instruments and self-produces, continuing to refine the contemporary R&B sound she has developed over the past decade.
The release follows Wilson’s 2025 Innovator Award at the Billboard Canada Women in Music ceremony, marking the first time the award was presented in Canada. She has released a steady stream of work since her breakout 2016 EP, “CDW”: the 2018 EP “Stone Woman”, her 2021 debut album “Alpha”, and this year’s “Cyan Blue”.
Wilson’s influence extends beyond her releases. Drake, John Mayer, and James Blake have sampled her work. She’s collaborated with Kaytranada, BADBADNOTGOOD, Syd, and most recently with Montreal producer Ouri on “Behave”. “Selfish” signals more music ahead from Wilson, who’s been on the road supporting Giveon’s “Dear Beloved, The Tour”.
